1. He voted twice against Bush's tax cuts, which were the most sweeping since Reagan. At the time, he stated that it was because they favored the rich. Now he is saying that they should have been attached to a spending bill. The truth is he should have voted "yes" then fought for spending cuts.
2. He told Alan Keyes in a debate that abortion was a choice for the family. Not surprisingly, Keyes jumped all over him for this comment. Check the transcript at:
http://archives.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0002/15/lkl.00.html The debate took place on February 5th, 2000. One year before that he said that he wouldn't overturn Roe. Moreover, he was instrumental to the senate deal that put moderate judges on the federal bench.
3. He doesn't realize that drug companies need profits to keep up with research. He has indicated that he is for the importation of generic drugs from Canada (a country that has lost the ability to produce drugs). Moreover, he's recently stated that he would weaken patent laws, so that he could help John Q. Public with costs.
4. He would micro-manage doctors if he had his way. His recent health care plan uses vague language to the effect that a doctor's pay should be tied to results. What kind of bureaucracy would this entail?
5. He voted against ANWR.
6. He believes global warming is a crises in the making. Thus, he is the only "republican" calling for mandatory restrictions on carbon producing industries. What kind of bureaucracy would this entail?
7. He is the most ethically compromised of any of the republican candidates. The Keating five scandal involved his intervening with regulators to protect Charles Keating's S and L. McCain's family had hundreds of thousand of dollars invested with Mr. Keating. Additionally, Keating had made more than one hundred thousand dollars in campaign contributions to McCain. 8. He has specifically stated that he wouldn't use water boarding, even where a nuclear weapon was in play. Recently, he's expressed his anger over the destruction of the CIA "torture tapes." Aside from the fact that the tapes now may not be used as a propaganda tool by our enemies, what is he so upset about?
9. His immigration plan was weak on boarder security and enforcement, and strong on giving illegals a pathway to citizenship.
10. We're all familiar by now with his campaign finance legislation. If the bill of rights doesn't protect political speech, what good is it? How can McCain not understand this?
11. He has admitted to infidelities during his first marriage.
12. He has no significant accomplishments that anyone can think of, since serving in the senate (TRY COMING UP WITH ONE!).
Granted, the man is a hero, but does that warrant his becoming president.?
